L\u2019hydroc\u00e9phalie communicante<\/strong> se produit lorsque l\u2019\u00e9coulement du liquide c\u00e9phalorachidien (LCR) est bloqu\u00e9 apr\u00e8s sa sortie des ventricules.<\/h4>\n

Ce type d\u2019hydroc\u00e9phalie peut r\u00e9sulter d\u2019un \u00e9paississement de l\u2019arachno\u00efde \u00e0 la base du cerveau, qui bloque l\u2019\u00e9coulement du LCR des espaces sous-arachno\u00efdiens spinaux aux espaces sous-arachno\u00efdiens corticaux. En principe, le LCR circule librement \u00e0 travers les ventricules et dans l\u2019espace sous-arachno\u00efdien. Un \u00e9paississement de la m\u00e9ninge arachno\u00efdienne \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur du cerveau peut emp\u00eacher la libre circulation du LCR par cette voie.<\/p>\n

L\u2019hydroc\u00e9phalie non communicante<\/strong>, \u00e9galement appel\u00e9e hydroc\u00e9phalie obstructive, se produit lorsque l\u2019\u00e9coulement du LCR est bloqu\u00e9 le long d\u2019un ou de plusieurs des passages \u00e9troits reliant les ventricules.<\/h4>\n

L\u2019une des causes les plus fr\u00e9quentes est la st\u00e9nose de l\u2019aqueduc, c.-\u00e0-d. un r\u00e9tr\u00e9cissement de l\u2019aqueduc de Sylvius, un petit passage entre les troisi\u00e8me et quatri\u00e8me ventricules c\u00e9r\u00e9braux.<\/p>\n
